Susumu Higa

Susumu Higa has been producing works on the theme of his native region, the island of Okinawa in the extreme southwest of Japan, ever since his debut. Drawing on the stories of his parents, who lived through the war, but also on the testimonies of Okinawans, Higa introduces us to his native island at various times: its inhabitants, its soldiers, its priestesses, and its beliefs. He is the winner of several awards, including the Grand Prize of the Japan Media Arts Festival in the manga category in 2003.
