Kaito Takagi is a high school student with little social standing who works as a low-level dungeon explorer in Japan, where dungeons have appeared nationwide. He spends his time battling slimes for extra cash and watching from afar as his childhood friend, a popular classmate, goes about her life. One day, he encounters and defeats a rare golden slime, which drops an ultra-valuable item: a card capable of summoning mythical beings. He chooses to use it, and a strikingly beautiful warrior maiden appears. The story follows his journey as he moves beyond his ordinary status in this modern fantasy setting.
