Kimichika Haijima returns to Monshiro Town following an incident at his former school in Suzuma City. He reconnects with his childhood friend Yuni Kuroba, who discovers that Haijima is a volleyball setter. As Yuni, also a player, takes the sport more seriously after Haijima reassembles the team, they set their sights on nationals. However, Yuni's older cousin intervenes to prevent further involvement with Haijima. The cousin reveals the truth behind the past incident: pressure from a previous match led a club member to attempt suicide, with everyone blaming Haijima for pressuring the victim to play better.
