Shortly after achieving the title of Newcomer King, Rei is summoned to Chairman Jinguuji’s office to participate in a celebratory match against Meijin Souya. Rei is surprised by this request, as he has viewed Souya as a godlike professional since childhood, but Jinguuji insists on his participation. He feels deeply moved by the warm congratulations offered by his Shougi Science Club members at school. In a separate storyline, Shimada prepares for his next match against Gakuto Sakurai, who holds the rank of 7 dan. These two players are competing for the right to challenge the reigning Kishou champion, Yanagihara, who is described as venerable.
