A mysterious creature destroys over 70% of the moon and threatens global annihilation within one year. After failed attempts to kill him due to his Mach 20 speed, he becomes the teacher of Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High School. The students receive specialized weapons and a 10 billion yen reward for his assassination before graduation. Despite their frustration, they find him to be a respectable educator. During a plan involving Nagisa Shiota, the creature sheds his skin to protect both himself and the student from a grenade blast. He warns against harming others while acknowledging Nagisa's efforts. Classmate Kaede Kayano subsequently names him Koro-sensei, reflecting his seemingly unkillable nature.
