Nadja and Francis travel to Vienna to meet her mother, but Rosemary, aided by the Duke, anticipates her efforts to prove her identity. Rosemary counters Nadja's evidence, including the brooch, diary, ball gown, lullaby, and orphanage destruction details. The Duke remains unyielding, while Herman recalls Keith's appearance and recommends Francis' arrest. Consequently, Nadja and Francis are unjustly imprisoned. Meanwhile, Herman finds Rosemary indifferent to his greed after the Duke names her his heiress.
