Riku awakens with heightened awareness, grappling with persistent thoughts of Saya and an intense thirst. Kai attempts to demonstrate Riku's humanity by encouraging him to eat, but Riku finds this difficult and suffers from insomnia. During a sudden Schiff assault on the vessel, Riku sustains injuries in the ensuing conflict. The attackers observe that Riku has become Saya's second Chevalier and retreat. Tormented by the burning need for blood, Riku accepts Kai's offer to feed on him. Kai permits this act, and Riku expresses his sorrowful gratitude for the sacrifice made to alleviate his suffering.
