During their conversation, Ryo discovers the background story of Daddy Longlegs and learns that Umibozu has been quietly supporting Maki from afar. Acting on this information, Ryo feigns willingness to take over Umibozu's protective duties. He then attempts various opportunities to sleep with Maki, complicating the arrangement originally proposed by Umibozu to ensure her safety.
