While Ryner and Ferris investigate hero relics in Nelpha, they meet Toale Nelphi at the town library. Simultaneously, political unrest in Roland leads to the assassination of Fiole Folkal, the king’s secretary, during a royal banquet. Ryner and Ferris dine at Toale’s residence, where Ryner meets Ferris’s sister, Iris Eris, who claims to be the sole link to Sion. Miran Froaude then arrives, promising to assist Sion by any means necessary, including desperate measures.
