Inashiro substitutes Hirano with Mei on the mound, with the coach considering him for captaincy due to a leadership void. Mei strikes out the first batter immediately, and teammate Gacchan steals a base. Despite teammates reaffirming their trust, Mei remains self-assured. During the game, Mei rejects the catcher’s requests for a change-up and forkball, leading to a disagreement. They settle on a fastball, which allows Ugumori to score two runs. Meanwhile, at Seido, Sawamura reflects on the fear of being unable to pitch as desired. Just as he anticipates revenge against Inashiro, the team receives news of their loss. The coach tells Mei that an ace who pitches solely for himself is not a true ace.
