The Mononokean exorcises yokai from the mundane world to return them to the Underworld. Abeno Haruitsuki, his employee Ashiya Hanae, and Fuzzy journey to the Underworld to assist the Legislator. While helping with his duties, Ashiya Hanae makes an error and delivers a document to the Executive, one of the three rulers governing the Underworld alongside the Legislator. The narrative questions the identity of this powerful figure.
