Reinhard von Müsel leads the Galactic Empire to victory over the Free Planets Alliance in the Fourth Battle of Tiamat. His success earns him a promotion to High Admiral and the title of Count von Lohengramm, while Yang Wen-li returns quietly to the Alliance capital and reconnects with friends. Both anticipate a period of peace, but Duke Otho von Braunschweig's machinations prompt the Empire to order Reinhard to lead an invasion with twenty thousand ships. The Duke reveals the plan to the Alliance, prompting them to deploy three fleets totaling forty thousand ships to prepare for a reenactment of the Battle of Dagon. Despite being outnumbered, Reinhard devises a strategy, which Yang recognizes. The question remains whether Yang's warnings will be heeded in time.
