Phoenix suffers a head injury and amnesia just before defending police officer Maggey Byrde for the murder of her boyfriend, fellow officer Dustin Prince. Despite his condition, he identifies contradictions in the evidence pointing to key witness Richard Wellington. Maya arrives with proof that Wellington belongs to a con artist group and killed Prince to prevent him from accessing the group's contacts on a missing phone found by Maggey. Wellington claims to have recovered his phone after attacking Phoenix. Phoenix then regains his memories, revealing that the device Wellington took was actually Phoenix's own. This revelation leaves Phoenix in possession of Wellington's phone, thereby proving Maggey's innocence.
