In May, Wong, Chang, and Lee successfully reclaim the Agnes, their designation for the submarine. During this theft, Maia is taken hostage as the group attempts to halt their actions. The Nereids initiate a recovery plan intended to be non-lethal, but the operation encounters significant complications and goes awry. Despite the chaos, Maia manages to rescue the treasure hunters from a situation that could have resulted in their drowning. This marks another instance where Maia saves the group from a potentially fatal watery grave, highlighting the ongoing tension between the retrieval team and the Nereids.
