Misaki Ayuzawa serves as the first female student council president at the formerly all-male Seika High School. While female students and staff respect her, male students fear and dislike her. Takumi Usui irritates Misaki by bluntly rejecting girls who confess to him. Misaki secretly works part-time at the Maid Latte café to pay off a large debt left by her father. Takumi discovers her secret but agrees to keep it, choosing to annoy her by visiting the café regularly. When Misaki falls ill from stress, Takumi advises her to relax, but she refuses. Later, the "Idiot Trio" of male students harasses Misaki at work. Takumi intervenes to protect her. After Misaki faints and recovers, Takumi reveals he ensured the boys kept her secret and teases her about becoming his personal maid for a day as a reward.
