Makoto begins her employment at a local nursery. On her way home accompanied by Yuichi, the pair encounters a small, affectionate stray kitten. While conversing on a bridge, Makoto accidentally drops the animal into the path of oncoming traffic, though the kitten survives the incident. Yuichi becomes furious with Makoto regarding this accident, which prompts her to temporarily run away from home.
