Flashbacks show Kuro’s life with her family, her Contract with Keita, and her return to the Pure Place. Akane recalls living with Keita, her Contract with Reishin, and the destruction of the Masagami. In the present, following the end of the Doppeliner System, Akane and Keita marry. Decades later, a dying Keita sends a telepathic message to the still young Kuro. He states he will take the curse with him and thanks her for a happy life. Keita dies while Kuro gratefully thanks her Contractee for everything he has done.
