The group discovers Shukichi Haneda visited the restaurant before the suspects arrived. Yumi admits she saw him but stayed silent to protect him. Conan advises Yumi to contact Shukichi for his sharp memory, while Masumi attempts to reach her knowledgeable brother, a regular patron. Both calls are initially interrupted; Shukichi puts Yumi on hold for another call, and Masumi’s brother hangs up after claiming to speak with an important person. Yumi eventually speaks with Shukichi, who describes a distinct clicking sound accompanying the culprit's footsteps. This auditory clue allows Conan and Masumi to deduce the true nature of the suspect's movement.
