Maya discovers a starling that has fallen from its nest and decides to raise it. She gently cares for the bird, defending and nursing it with affection. However, the starling has an instinctual need to eat insects, which creates a conflict because Maya considers insects to be her friends. This dilemma presents a significant challenge for Maya and her friend Flip, who must figure out how to resolve the situation where the bird's natural diet clashes with Maya's feelings toward the insects.
