Habaki tasks surgeon Ayame Burando with testing Manji's immortality within eight days to help prisoner Dewanosuke. Rin allows Doa Yoshino and Isaku Yasonokami to stay, then searches for Manji, learning Mugai-ryuu disbanded. Burando attempts live dissection, but Manji's self-healing body injures him, sparking an idea. Manji and Dewanosuke plan escape, but Habaki intervenes, severing both their right hands. Burando stitches Manji's hand onto Dewanosuke, which heals rapidly, suggesting transferred immortality. Habaki then plans a larger body-switching experiment and summons beheader Yamada Asaemon.
