1EP 1recapRecap of early series events including Manji and Rin's initial encounters
Oct 10, 2019This 2008 recap details the beginning of the series, covering the death of Manji's sister Machi and his subsequent slaughter of the responsible ronin. It also depicts the massacre of the Asano family and Rin Asano's first meeting with Yaobikuni before she seeks out Manji. The narrative follows Manji's decision to assist Rin, culminating in her encounter with Sabato Kuroi and his eventual slaying by Manji. These events establish the foundational backstory and character motivations that drive the early plot forward, providing context for the ongoing conflict and relationships between the main figures involved in the story.
2EP 2Manji and Rin seek Master Sori's help for revenge against the Ittou-ryuu, leading to a violent confrontation.
Oct 10, 2019Manji and Rin visit Master Sori to recruit him against the Ittou-ryuu. Rin reveals she knows he is a shogunate spy, causing Manji to leave. Rin is attacked by Ittou-ryuu followers, and Manji returns to kill them but gets pinned by tree spikes. Sori wakes when blood hits his face and kills the leader. He later pays Rin for a color for his art. Rin takes Manji's weapons to a blacksmith and sees her father's sword. The owner, Magatsu, offers to sell it if she reveals the Asano dojo daughter's location. Suspecting Rin, Magatsu fights Manji that night. Both are severely injured, but Manji retrieves the sword.
3EP 3Makie fights Manji and rejects her past while Rin defends him.
Oct 17, 2019Makie attempts to seduce Manji in an alley, revealing her Ittou-ryuu origins before he defeats her. She later meets Anotsu on a bridge, rejecting his claim that he desires her as a woman. After Anotsu leaves, she defeats three swordsmen sent by her former employer by cutting her hair and slaughtering them. Makie then engages Manji in a vicious battle in narrow laneways, where she slashes off his limbs and impales him with his own sword. Though shocked by her brutality, she continues fighting after Manji encourages her. Rin arrives to defend Manji, and when Makie questions the necessity of bloodshed for revenge, Rin states that killing for family is superior to killing for self-justification. Makie departs, declining to rejoin her sister O-Hatsu in the red light district, and leaves a note for Anotsu announcing her departure from the Ittou-ryuu.
4EP 4Rin faces Kagehisa Anotsu, who critiques her knife techniques and clan traditions.
Oct 24, 2019Kagehisa Anotsu recalls childhood trauma where Makie saved him from dogs, only to be beaten by his grandfather Saburou Anotsu for her rival clan ties despite her combat prowess. In the present, Rin attacks Kagehisa Anotsu in the forest with knives, but he easily deflects them, leaving only one wound. He explains their families' feud stems from opposing views on traditional swordsmanship versus pragmatic victory. Kagehisa Anotsu returns her weapons, noting her reliance on knives violates Mutenichi-ryuu tradition. After he leaves, Rin weeps in despair. Later, Kagehisa Anotsu remembers inheriting Ittou-ryuu after his grandfather’s companion killed him, allowing Kagehisa Anotsu to pursue his unique fighting style.
5EP 5Manji and Rin face Eiku Shizuma, who traps Rin to lure Manji into a deadly confrontation.

Shizuma, also immortal, departs, but Manji suffers as poison from Shizuma’s dagger kills his bloodworms. Rin administers Asano family antitoxin and leaves for a doctor, encountering an old woman disguised as Yaobikuni. This is a trap by Shizuma to kidnap Rin and draw out Manji. Shizuma reveals he became immortal two hundred years ago during the Sengoku period but lost everything. He offers Rin his blood to grant immortality, but Manji, partially recovered, interrupts. Rin creates a distraction, allowing Manji to impale Shizuma with his own poisoned sword, ending his life. Shizuma’s final words reveal Anotsu is heading to Kaga. Rin questions if immortality only prolongs the pain of unfulfilled goals.
6EP 6Rin defends Renzo from an arrogant samurai while Manji confronts the boy's father Araya Kawakami.
Nov 7, 2019Rin endures rude behavior from young Renzo Kawakami, recalling her grandfather's advice against revenge. Manji meets Araya Kawakami, who reveals past ties to the Ittou-ryuu. An arrogant samurai blames Renzo for a broken sandal, but Rin defends the boy, mentioning her Asano dojo background. The samurai mocks her and acts inappropriately, so Rin fixes the sandal and visits the Kawakami home without her sword. She tells Araya about her parents' murder two years prior. Araya recognizes her as the daughter of the couple he killed and sends Renzo away. When Rin demands an apology instead of vengeance, Araya attacks. Manji intervenes, killing Araya in a duel.
