Chiko returns to her aunt’s home after being rescued by detective Akine, where she endures continued poisoning and neglect from her aunt. A new maid, Tome, attempts to care for Chiko, who initially refuses to eat, speak, or sleep. The mood shifts when detective Akechi arrives and suggests that Twenty Faces may still be alive. Inspired by this news, Chiko accepts Tome’s hospitality and decides to attend school. At school, she meets Shunka, the granddaughter of the school’s founder. Later, Akechi gives Chiko the Anastasia Ruby, which is believed to be possessed by Twenty Faces. Convinced that Twenty Faces is alive, Chiko resolves to begin searching for him as a detective.
