Ruzz Elingin of the Derink Trading Company offers sixty Lumione gold coins for Holo, replacing the agreed two thousand Trenni silver coins due to a lack of funds, and Lawrence accepts. During the celebration, Eve discloses she was previously bought and married to a merchant, urging the pair to value their time together. At the inn, Holo proposes ending their travels now that Lawrence is close to owning a shop, but he refuses. The following morning, they return books to Rigoro and speak with Merta, a nun librarian at his home. Suddenly, Eve returns with news of a coup d'état, leaving them trapped by a rebellion.
