Colonists on the planet Yietta rely on its liquid-gas oceans for survival as they near repayment of their debt to the Galactic Federation. Tita, a 17-year-old captain, commands the Cha Cha Maru, collecting exotic creatures for sale to intergalactic pet shops. When she inadvertently becomes involved in a conspiracy to seize control of Yietta, she rescues Elysse, a 16-year-old girl, from the military. This act puts Tita and her crew in grave danger, as Elysse is believed to hold a crucial computer code. As forces intent on capturing Elysse escalate their efforts, Tita must evade a large group of professional assassins in a high-stakes chase across the planet.
