Ash returns to his human shape, but Pikachu suffers from a mysterious illness. A passing trainer guides them to a lake known for healing electric-type Pokémon. There, they discover that a crystal is responsible for the recovery. However, Team Rocket steals the crystal, causing the legendary bird Zapdos to appear in a furious rage. The group must now deal with the consequences of disrupting the natural balance and facing the enraged legendary Pokémon.
