Ash and his companions attempt to catch a ferry to Lilycove but accidentally board a vessel bound for Bomba Island. There, they encounter Jimmy, a student at the Pokémon Battle Judge Training Institute, along with his Wartortle, Charmeleon, and Ivysaur. Professor Serena organizes a Double Battle for her class, with Ash commanding Swellow and Corphish, and Brock using Mudkip and Lombre. Jimmy serves as the judge but incorrectly declares Corphish defeated after a simultaneous Water Gun attack. Later, Jimmy reveals he obtained his Cascade Badge by chance. Team Rocket steals Jimmy's Pokémon, prompting Wartortle to evolve into Blastoise and use Hydro Pump to rescue them. After Team Rocket is defeated, Professor Serena advises Jimmy to leave the institute to become a Trainer. Jimmy departs for Lilycove to begin his journey, while Ash and friends proceed to Mossdeep City.
