As the second year of high school begins, Sentarou is depressed because he is separated from Kaoru and Ritsuko into different classes. He begins to bond with Seiji, a student who admires the Beatles and has his own musical ambitions. This developing friendship causes Kaoru to become jealous and fearful that she might lose Sentarou permanently. The narrative focuses on the shifting dynamics between the characters as Sentarou navigates his new social circle and Kaoru struggles with her feelings regarding his growing connection to Seiji.
