Tsubaki, Watari, and Kousei rush to the hospital to see Kaori after her competition performance. Kousei and Kaori were disqualified from the final round because they stopped playing, yet Kaori offers no reproach, deepening Kousei's guilt. Her persistent questions about his piano playing and ability to forget haunt him. Several days later, Kousei sees Kaori back at school after discharge. Although he tells himself not to misunderstand the situation when Watari is with her, he encounters Kaori again on his way home. During this meeting, Kaori implores Kousei to enter a piano competition, leaving him to grapple with her words and his own feelings.
