Princess Ariadne encounters the Odyssey and requests assistance from Ulysses. Her goal is to save her lover, Theseus, who faces execution by the Minotaur. Theseus has been exiled to the labyrinth belonging to Ariadne's father. The creature within the maze is described as fearsome. Ariadne approaches the Odyssey specifically to gain the help needed to prevent her lover's death in this dangerous location.
