On a hot summer day, Daikichi and Rin visit Souichi's grave. Daikichi sees Masako there and suggests she secretly observe Rin. The pair then visit Souichi's house, now owned by his uncle, noting the yard is covered in gravel. After returning home to celebrate Rin's birthday, they attend a summer festival.
