In the entertainment-focused nation of Botan, travelers from Kikyo face a midnight ambush by assassins. Naosuke falls from a cliff into a river while protecting his group, eventually washing ashore where he is found by the Botan Six. He learns that Shou, a member of this group, was meant to receive a document Naosuke entrusted to his missing friend Yuma. While Naosuke worries about his separated companions, Reiji of the Botan Six locates Yuma, Issa, and Futaba. Reiji facilitates their reunion, but the peace is short-lived as the pursuing assassins emerge from the shadows to threaten the reunited travelers once again.
