YAWARA! a fashionable judo girl!

Sayaka eclipses Yawara while Fujiko trains for Barcelona and Yawara quits judo

After Sayaka wins the Fukuoka International following the World Championships, reporters declare her superior to Yawara. On a cold winter morning, Yawara sees Fujiko running and learns she is training for the Barcelona Olympics. Yawara confronts Jigoro about Fujiko’s involvement, but Fujiko reveals Matsuda proposed the idea. Furious, Yawara tells Matsuda to stop contacting her and quits judo permanently. Fujiko continues training because she loves the sport. Matsuda covers a ski event in Yamagata with Kuniko, leading Yawara to mistakenly believe he will leave journalism to marry her. Matsuda’s mother reprimands him for considering quitting and reminds him of his goal to find the strongest girl in the world. On Christmas Eve, Shinnosuke asks Yawara out after Sayaka is busy entertaining a French family friend.
