Kyo becomes convinced that Maihama and his friends are real, despite the confusing circumstances surrounding him. As his mental state deteriorates, he fails to appear for battle when the Oceanus requires his presence the most. This absence leaves the crew vulnerable as the enemy, Abyss, finally makes its appearance. The Cerebrants are forced to defend themselves against this new threat without Kyo’s assistance. The episode focuses on Kyo’s internal struggle with reality and the immediate consequences of his disappearance during a critical moment of conflict.
