Centuries after the world's surface fell into chaos, the city of Novus Aether remains airborne through the Saint's unbroken prayers. When these prayers once ceased, the "Gran Forte" disaster occurred, splitting the lower city and causing widespread destruction. The lowest layer, now called the "Prison," is home to those most affected by the event, where crime and suffering are rampant. The ruling group, "The Noncorroding Gold Chains," maintains minimal order, while a disease causing wing growth spreads, leading to the formation of "Wing Hunters" to eliminate the infected. Caim Astraea, a former assassin taking odd jobs for a crime boss, discovers Eustia, a winged girl emitting light linked to the "Gran Forte." His involvement with her leads him into the city's powerful institutions, as he seeks purpose and uncovers hidden truths about Novus Aether.
