Mysterious machines known as "Tremble" appear in the world, their origins unknown. They evolve and attack humans without clear reason. People attempt to destroy them, but some have learned to control them—these individuals are called Breeders. Breeders face hostility and are often treated as criminals. Ion chooses to become a Breeder, following in his father's path, despite the challenges and dangers involved.
