Edo Karuta

A series of brief historical tales, each linked to a karuta card, centers on the Yoshiwara district in Edo. One story follows Kimori Okuma, a kind but overweight woman who faces difficulty finding a husband until a samurai intervenes when she is ridiculed. Another involves Asagi, who, after her father's ritual suicide, struggles with a lower status and is mistreated by coworkers, while dealing with a man stuck beneath a barrel. A third tale features Tama, a child separated from her father and staying with a family that includes Shirou, as she seeks to return to her original home. Lastly, Seiichi is tasked with protecting his princess, Miya, and must decide what is best for her despite their personal feelings.
