Hayata, a middle-distance runner who experienced a disappointing final race in high school, considered returning to his hometown of Iwate to find work after graduation. Instead, he learns that a private university, now owned by a large IT company, is forming an ekiden team to compete in the Hakone relay race. The university is holding a nationwide audition to select scholarship students for the team. Adding to the team's appeal, the manager is a well-known idol.
