Two sisters, Kanata and Konata, possess the ability to see Yokai—spirits, gods, and demons invisible to others. The younger sister, Kanata, approaches these beings with childlike curiosity, while Konata is preparing to leave this world behind as she enters high school. When Kanata encounters a spirit seeking help to recover five pieces of its body, she agrees to assist. The mission proves dangerous, prompting Konata to reenter the spirit world to protect her sister. She must now safeguard Kanata from both the spirit requesting aid and other demons determined to prevent its recovery.
