A girl named Doora frequently speaks of the ocean and claims to be a mermaid. Another character, Trance, visits a slave market with his cousin Palfiena, who worries he will make a poor choice. He becomes interested in a mute girl and purchases her despite her concerns. Kianna is a mermaid living in the northern ocean, enjoying a quiet life with her friends until a man arrives with the intent to kill her. Karen, who has always worn zipped clothing, is told by her parents to stop opening them in public. However, when she falls for Rob, he finds and unzips a zipper on her stomach. Selma travels to the Mokumoku kingdom to perform music for the royal family. Though her performance is well-received, she must limit her playing to once a week as promised to her master.
