A girl named Nanao was kidnapped as a child by an Ayakashi, which left a spirit seal on her body. This mark caused her to be shunned by her clan as the "tainted one." She was intended to marry the heir of the Byakurenji family, but her cousin took her place, forcing Nanao to wear a monkey mask to conceal the seal and live in hardship. She later encounters the leader of the Benitsubaki clan, who becomes fascinated by her after her mask slips off, revealing her face and her strong spiritual energy.
