Asahina Jinta, who calls himself "Hard-Boiled," is referred to a private investigation firm by a past employer. On his first day, his bike is hit by a car driven by a woman named Shouko, a detective who is also caring for a baby. This encounter surprises him, as it contrasts with his expectations of detective work. At the office, he finds the environment similar to a corporate setting, and his primary task ends up being to look after Shouko’s child. Despite this, Asahina remains determined. When a call comes in, he answers it before the operator can, marking the start of his first investigation. Through this, he begins to glimpse the darker aspects of human nature.
