Nora no Inochi
ノラのいのち
Raku Hirano is twenty-five, drifting through life as a freeter and waiting tables at a local Thai restaurant, where the regulars and friends around her call her Nora. When her shifts end she rarely goes home, partly because she has no home of her own to return to; she sleeps on a friend's floor, has nothing put away, and occasionally falls into bed with men she barely knows. Plans for the future do not exist. Despite all of this, Nora is not unhappy. The looseness of her days suits her, and she has settled comfortably into the rhythm of working, drinking until morning, and letting tomorrow handle itself. Then something arrives that this routine cannot absorb, and the easy, weightless existence she had built around herself begins to come apart.
