Todo Sojuro, a former mercenary instructor, returned to Japan after the war with his student Sylpha, whom he took in after she became an orphan. He later discovered he had feelings for her but chose to distance himself to allow her a normal life. Unexpectedly, Sylpha also admitted her affection for him. The two now share a comedic domestic life together.
