Mizuho, a university student, is informed that a former high school classmate, Origuchi Haruka, has died. Though Mizuho does not recall being close to Origuchi, the girl's mother claims they were best friends and asks Mizuho to locate the boy Origuchi dated in high school. Mizuho initially recalls Origuchi as unremarkable and not associated with any boyfriend, but Origuchi's mother reveals she had a pregnancy and subsequent abortion during high school. Shocked by this information, Mizuho begins inquiring among their former classmates and investigating the clues left by Origuchi.
