After her mother's death in the aftermath of World War II, a young girl named Shouko is left alone. Struggling to survive in a Japan undergoing reconstruction, she turns to stealing to get by. Shouko is motivated by a desire for revenge and intends to hold accountable those who harmed the people who supported her.
