Rika Kuroki is 28 and has not yet experienced love. She is resigned to the possibility that she will never marry. When her roommate moves out, she feels the weight of loneliness and decides to adopt a cat. At the shelter, she learns that single individuals are not allowed to adopt animals. She meets another person who is also struggling with solitude, and together they take in a cat. They begin a shared living arrangement, which others might find unusual.
