Kevin Flynn, a pioneering software engineer and ENCOM International's CEO, vanishes in 1989. Twenty years later, his son Sam, now the company's largest shareholder, pays little attention to ENCOM beyond playing an annual prank on the board. Alan Bradley, a close associate of Kevin and an ENCOM executive, asks Sam to look into a strange page found in Flynn's old arcade. Sam locates a hidden computer lab there and accidentally activates it, transporting himself to the Grid, a digital world built by his father.
