Ruzo received the prestigious Knife Award, given every ten years to exceptional chefs, but was ruined after being sabotaged by his envious colleague Tatsuzo. This led to Ruzo's public disgrace and eventual suicide. Tatsuzo's actions also resulted in the deaths of Tomezo's pregnant wife, Ofuji, and his apprentice, Otomatsu. Ruzo's only daughter, Omino, gives up her personal happiness and endangers her life to seek vengeance by training as a chef.
