Safinia enjoys a peaceful life in 17th-century Venice with her father, a skilled artisan, and his apprentice, Angelo. Her life is disrupted when Ricardo Carrá arrives, claiming the wealthy Poliziano family wishes to employ her as a companion for someone with poor health. Suspicious circumstances surround the offer, and after Safinia refuses, her father is falsely charged with theft and killed.
