Using the magic of the Millennium Necklace, Ishizu Ishtar shows Kaiba how Duel Monsters was played in ancient times in the form of shadow games. The ancient games have since been resurrected in modern times, along with three almighty beasts of unstoppable devastation – the Egyptian Gods, who's powers exceed that of Exodia's. Ishizu gives Kaiba one of them, God Soldier of Obelisk on the condition that Kaiba creates a tournament so that the other God cards can be found. Agreeing to do so, Kaiba leaves, believing he now has what it takes to defeat Yuugi and become the number one duelist again. (Source: Wikipedia, modified)
